Who is Orfeo Goracci, Mayor of Gubbio
He was born in Gubbio on the 8th February 1959. He is a primary school teacher and is married with one child.
At a young age he became secretary of the Gubbio Section of the PCI Party. In 1988 he was elected on the Communal Council and became head of the group. In 1989 he was assessor of the environment and of public works. In 1992 he was among the founders in Umbria of the Refoundation Communist Party.
In 1993 he was elected to the Chamber of deputies in the Umbrian-Sabinian area. From 1995 to 2000 he was Regional Councillor and for 4 years he was Vice President of the Regional Committee.

A community if also made of belongings, cultural identity, common roots that are the patrimony transmitted from generation to generation and on which the future of the collectivity is formed.
For this reason the Eugubini are not only those who live in our city but also many of those who in all parts of the world have left their prints, because they know how to live and live with others. This greeting from Gubbio goes to all those who have left the city but have still given much, and have also collected experience to transmit to their children and grandchildren and to their land of origin.
To the Eugubini, to their descendents, which now are citizens of the countries in which they live, from the North of Europe to the U.S.A., from Australia to Argentina, this shared greeting from Gubbio, is directed.
The city is proud of their cultural and material contribution towards the countries which received them, and to which they have given their proper intelligent laboriousness and humanity.
As mayor of Gubbio and of all the Eugubini in the world, I which to express my gratitude for the strong ties which unite them to our city, and I wish to invite them to discover and to defend this identity. I would like them to return to Gubbio to learn to know the places, which their parents and grandparents talked about, and exert themselves concretely to a cultural integration, which could transform all our differences into a true richness.
